Paris Hilton CD Review

Hey guys, here’s a review of Paris Hilton’s CD by Stuff.co.nz:
There was an almost palpable sense of disappointment when Paris Hilton’s debut single, Stars Are Blind, was released. The prevailing mood could be roughly translated as: “Damn it, this is actually pretty good.”
Sure, Hilton’s vocal track involved more special effects than Superman Returns, but the cheeky chorus - “If you show me real love, baby, I’ll show you mine” (ooh,er!) - and sunny production made it a decent Stefani-esque successor to the likes of Kokomo. Bugger.
Thankfully for schadenfreude-inclined pop fans, the standard set by Stars Are Blind isn’t matched by the rest of the album. Paris is, for the most part, exactly as mediocre as one might have hoped. The fault lies with Hilton herself.
Here’s some more!
She came to singing some time after nightclubbing, modelling, acting and starring unwittingly in amateur hotel-room productions, and on her debut album it shows. The assembled producers (as with Ben Hur, Paris required an apparent cast of thousands) have constructed some tight aural backgrounds. You can hear the expense - from the percussive R&B of Fightin’ Over Me to the bass-heavy My Lips Are Sealed facsimile that is Screwed.
But although the team, including Sheppard Solomon (S Club 7, Natalie Imbruglia) and Scott Storch (Christina Aguilera, Beyonce), can correct Hilton’s pitch, they can’t do much about her lack of vocal vigour.
Hilton just doesn’t sound like a pop star, she sounds like a little girl trying to be a pop star. Storch has no doubt told her to intone his name, and she dutifully obeys: “Scott Storch”.
Later she tries on a carnal moan and it sounds like something she once heard in a cheap movie. Those looking for the unmistakeable personality of a Robbie, a Justin or even a Kylie in these 11 tracks are likely to be frustrated. Even the narcissism sounds forced.
The nadir of the project is the cover of Rod Stewart’s Do Ya Think I’m Sexy. With the vocal range of a hoarse mouse, Hilton struggles so nobly with the high notes of the chorus that one almost forgets the title question is meant to be rhetorical.
Still, perhaps this review of the music is beside the point. If so, then take this away: Paris looks hot on the album sleeve. You get six pictures of her.
Oh, how awful for Paris! Poor dear…..
